Life or something like it. [Feb. 22nd, 2010|02:29 pm]
[Current dispositon | grateful]

I think people are too scared of what others will think of them. Everyone has opinions and they are all different. People are also afraid of conflict. I believe we shouldn’t have that stigma of speaking out and being reprimanded. Speaking up is not a crime! If we don’t speak up, change could never happen. Yes, I speak up and yes I get a lot of crap from people who think I shouldn’t have an opinion. Which is all the more reason to speak up. You’ll have to forgive me when it comes to this journal. I am new to this. Josh’s idea actually. As I was saying you will have to forgive me when it comes to this journal, as I am not used to writing things down and tend to go off topic, but I will try my best to keep up with this journal and stay on topic. I suppose I should tell you about me now, though I am not going to list my credits of what I have been in. That’s what International Movie Database is for. So if you really must know please direct yourself there.

I am a woman of many hats. Daughter, Sister, Wife, Auntie, Friend, Actress, Producer, Animal right’s activist, Mother and so many more I don’t think it wise to continue listing here, for it is a long list. Let us start with daughter and sister shall we? I was born the 4th (and thus last) child to Paul and Nancy Heigl. I joined my three older siblings Meg, Jason and Holt in late November as a very big surprise to the entire family. You see, my parent’s had wanted a girl after they had Holt and Jason but had no luck so they adopted my sister Meg from Korea and a few years later I came along. We moved around when I was younger but finally settled in Connecticut. When I was 8 years old though our family would suffer a great loss when my brother Jason then 15 was thrown from the back of a pickup truck and later was pronounced brain-dead following an 8 hour operation. With some quick and very painful thinking my parents decided to harvest Jason’s organs and donate them to those in need. The experience of losing Jason would later on in my life give me inspiration to use my “fame” to promote organ donation. My Mother is my best friend, Manager, and Production Partner. She’s always told each of her children there isn’t anything in the world we couldn’t have or do, of course nothing comes easy so we would have to work for it. But a little hard work never hurt anyone. When I was 9 years old I began to model and modeling lead to acting which of course lead me where I am today. And yes, in ‘My Father the Hero” and “Prince Valiant” that really is my ass. I went on to the series “Roswell” and eventually “Grey’s Anatomy” in which I won an Emmy for my role as Isobel Stevens in September 2007. And if you saw my most recent movie let me just say, that whole vibrating underwear scene…exhausting! Currently though I am taking a small break from Grey’s Anatomy so I can head down to Atlanta to film a movie called “Life as we know it” and will co-star Josh Duhamel. The romantic drama, which follows two single people whose lives are turned upside down when their mutual best friends are killed in an accident and they are named as caregivers for the deceased's orphaned daughter.

Now that you know a little about my past and my family and how I got into this crazy business I’d like to get a little more personal. Okay whoa backup there, not that kind of personal! I gave up on love not too long ago. Why? Because most guys were jerks. And already had a failed engagement to Jason Bher under my belt. But on May 27th 2005, that would all change. You see I was cast to be in a music video for some relatively unknown musician. The shoot would only take one day and hey I didn’t know if Grey’s Anatomy was going to work out so any job was a good job. Little did I know though how much my life would change. I remember sitting in the makeup chair when he walked in. Tall, insanely handsome and the most amazing smile I had ever seen. Well very quickly did I realize that guy was in fact Josh Kelley, the man who’s music video I would be in. Needless to say my role of “Flirting through the window” wasn’t one of the hardest roles in my life because I was actually flirting with him. That night when the shoot wrapped he walked up to me and said “Katie your going to join the guys and me for dinner, I won’t take no for an answer”. So we all ate and drank and just started to hang out after that. Well soon Josh and I were one of those couples who if we weren’t with each other we were on the phone with each other. I was in LA he was in Nashville so it was a very hard long distance relationship. But in June 2006 Josh brought me back to Venice Beach in California, where the music video was shot and proposed to me. It was very Josh. You see he can’t just say “Will you marry me”. He had this beautiful table on the top of a roof under the stars with roses wine and a delicious chocolate cake out for us to eat and told me to have a seat and take a bite of the cake. When I did he said “Will you fucking marry me? I love you” Well needless to say I said yes. I know some women may not think that’s romantic but that’s my Josh. And I love him. We were married in Deer Valley, Utah on December 23rd, 2007.

Now we are proud parents the newest addition to our family our beautiful daughter Naleigh. We were shocked and thrilled to learn we would become parents after having filled out the on going paperwork and all. You see the reason why we received Naleigh so quickly is because she is a child with special needs she had two holes in her heart when she was born, so she had open-heart surgery when she was 3 months old. I’ve known for a very long time I wanted to adopt and maybe one day even have a child naturally but a child is a child and all children need a amazing loving home. Adoption has always been an important issue for Josh and I. We began talking about adoption even before we were engaged because it's really important to me. It's been a big part of my life and my family. My sister is Korean and my parents adopted her back in the 70's and so I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do. I made that really clear because not everybody is down with that. Not everybody thinks that. I just wanted to make sure that I was marrying a guy who understands that this was going to have to happen. Naleigh is a name we came up with for her. It’s a mixture of my mother’s name Nancy and my sister’s middle name Leigh. She is already a whole year old and perfect. Actually her birthday is the day before mine which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign. She is the best little baby ever. She rarely cries. Infact in the mornings or after nap time instead of crying she wakes up singing. It’s the cutest little thing ever.
